We hear you. You’re so tired of telling your family to back off and leave you alone and that you don’t have hearing loss. And if you did, you’d know.
Never fear. We’ve got your back! All will be revealed.
Think of us as a team of X-men (and X-women) with hearing fact superpowers who will finally silence your family and friends.
As a matter of fact, you have superpowers too. You’re part of the elite 16–30% of Americans who could treat their hearing loss issues but don’t. But wait. You don’t have a hearing loss.
Of course, you don’t. You know what’s what, and you’d notice if you had a hearing problem. And let’s face it, you have good reasons for delaying or avoiding even getting a hearing test.
We’ve outlined these amazing reasons for your avoidance below so you can be ready for the next (yawn) family intervention.
1 – Family Talk Is So Boring
You’ve had enough hearing in your life. Now all you want is peace. Hear your spouse sharing about the day? Nah. Hear the grandkids tell a funny story? Overrated. Talk to your kids on the phone? They’ll be so fed up that it’ll just force them to visit instead.
You’ve spent so long being close to your loved ones, and now you can just drift apart, like a paper boat on a pond, because you can’t follow a conversation anymore.
Grab a sailing hat and lift your face to the clouds. This is going to be a long trip.
2 – You’re Just Keeping Things Interesting
Who knew having people think you couldn’t hear could generate so much emotion? Here they are in front of you shouting, speaking slowly, and practically dancing just because you’ve asked them to repeat themselves or speak up.
It’s quite amusing, really, like forcing them to sing for their supper, and you’re all for it.
3 – It’s A Conspiracy!
You know there’s nothing wrong with your hearing, but they keep insisting there is. How can they think you don’t see the subterfuge going on here? They’re all in on it, too — not one person whispering shouting in your ear that it’s just a game.
They must be getting something out of it because the game has been going on for a long time. And if you could just figure it out, maybe they’d finally come to their senses and stop whispering and mumbling.
They probably think it’s all a big joke, but the last laugh will be on them. When you know, you know.
4 – Hearing Treatment Is For Wimps
No one in their right mind is going to go to some silly audiologist for a hearing test when they know perfectly well there’s nothing wrong with their hearing.
And even if there was some small chance of them finding something, there’s no need to go overboard and have it treated, of all things! Whatever happened to manning it up, taking it to the chin, braving it through, so no man is left behind?
For goodness’s sake, getting hearing treatment is like taking a sick day for a sniffle…Even if no one bothers including you in a conversation anymore because you can’t follow it.
At least you can stay rock solid in knowing you’re strong and fearless.
5 – Why Spend Money On Something So Mundane?
Who in their right mind would want to spend money on a hearing device when that money could go so much further if it was spent on leasing a luxury car, a high-powered generator, or a big bass surround sound system? Rarr.
For real, hearing care is for people with too much money, not mere mortals like you who have better things to spend it on that show your prestige rather than show that you need hearing help — even though many of the newer hearing devices are practically invisible.
Okay, So We’re Poking Fun, But This Is Serious
Although hearing loss is nothing to laugh about, we’ve actually heard the excuses above in our 20+ years of business.
When family and friends tell you to get your hearing checked, they’re probably right — studies prove that they are the first to notice, while the person with a gradual hearing loss doesn’t notice it. They just adapt.
It becomes a major issue once the adapting doesn’t work anymore and their family is getting more and more stressed and frustrated with the denial and unwillingness to get hearing help.
If you or a loved one is concerned about possible hearing loss, you should schedule a hearing assessment. It is quick and non-invasive, and you’ll get the results right away. We’ll also be able to tell you about your treatment options immediately.
We’d love to walk your hearing journey with you and help you get back to great communication at home, at work, and when you’re out and about. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ve been missing.
